Standing Up

October 7, 2006

Like it, or not.  Agree with them, or not.  There are few people in this world that would disagree that feminism has bought about many changes in this world, and most of the men that are reading this will also agree that very few of those changes have had a positive effect  on themselves or our society.

I think it is also fair to say, that most females will not be satisfied that their job is anywhere near done, and to watch out, because there is more to come.

That is, of course, unless men are prepared to stand up

Until now, most of the reaction from men has either been in the form of verbally venting their anger in forums such as these, or by lobbying to those that turn a deaf  ear.

There are also those who create excellent sites that give good advice to men, but usually, in the end, all they can do is inform their readers that, despite all the good intentions, and as it stands at the moment, it is a futile excersize.

Well. I think that we can solve this problem fairly quickly, and we do not have to do much more than stand up. Right at the moment, if a man marries, he stands a far better than 50% chance that within a few years he will lose some or all of the following:

His wife
His children
Most of the money in his bank account
His Job
His House
His car

I ask you gentlemen (especially the young ones). At what percentage are you prepared to risk everything that you have spent your whole life working for?

If you are not prepared to take such a huge risk, then consider the following.

What if you did not get married?
What if you did not have children?
What if you had your own business?
What if you rented a house?
What if you did not have a car?
What if you operated with your brothers as a private cooperative?

Now obviously, if you were not married in the first place then most of the other items would cease to be a problem. But there could be a whole lot of protection if you were a member of such a cooperative, and, do not forget, just having a girlfriend can still get you in all kinds of trouble.

Of course, if you were married and were a member of such a cooperative, then it could be very easy to minimise your losses, and the larger the cooperative became then the stronger would be the lobby.

As the inaugural post to this blog, my intent here is to seed the conversation between us. Future posts will add to and expand on the cooperative concept.

Let’s stop all the talking and get into some doing.
